As a curious artist, my socially engaged creative practice is driven by 4 key components; people, place, objects and archives, brought to life by the social connections between them. Led by detailed research, her process-driven methods develop engaging public experiences to reveal the complexities of human interaction through time, in place. This approach directly informs the methods, materials and responses which she employs, building on the visual, experiential and often conceptual references which interweave her multi-disciplinary work. Commissioned for the Art in Manufacturing for the National Festival of Making and as a Research Artist for Dementia & Imagination, McConnell has also worked in-residence with many socially engaged place-focussed organisations, including In Certain Places, In-Situ, Art Gene and Heart of Glass.
Her artists’ book making skills, evident in the Tate and National Library of Wales collections led her to work on the Homeless Library, a north west focussed project led by arthur+martha, which launched at the Houses of Parliament in 2016.
